The story, Bread Givers written by Anzia Yezierska is known as a coming-of-age story about a Jewish-American girl. This book covers broad topics of American history just like Americanization, how old community values clashed with new world values, as well as the search for freedom. The novel's protagonist, Sara Smolinsky is better suited than her family members for America because of her ability to manage change. During this essay, I will analyze how Sara deals with her different perspective of America compared to those of her along with how she actually is able to substitute her old world beliefs with American values. Let me also examine how Sara's search for independence leads her to reconcile with her father. What is America? However simple this question may seem, it happens many different answers because it means different things for different people. Sara Smolinsky differs in her judgment of the actual process of Americanization involves. She understands that in the us, things are not really given out freely—they must be attained. Her independence throughout the story helps to clarify her understanding for this strategy.
