Sold Out Salesmen

There have been

many severe critics of capitalism. Some would phone it a way for the

individual to obtain what's owed to him/her, to earn their method;

others would contact it a way of enforcing consumerism and

materialism, creating a culture without meaning. In 1949, Arthur

Miller, infamous communist, released his unique scathing critique of capitalism in the form of one of the enduring and celebrated American takes on ever created: Death of a Salesman. The play targets all-American Willy Loman, a vintage, disgruntled, exploring salesman and his family group. Through his characterization of Willy, Miller lambastes the American Wish as an unforgiving fantasy that no more exists—if it ever did at all.

Willy, abandoned by

his daddy when he was simply a toddler, and in the future by his older

brother, is usually a deeply insecure and sad gentleman. When his brother, Ben,

afterwards returns to him a wealthy person, Ben becomes his idealistic

representation of the American Aspiration. He includes a deeply troubled but

unflinching look at in this Dream, partly stemming from his older

brother, who “understood what he needed and went and first got it!”

(1.41). WillyРІР‚в„ўs notion of the American Goal entails one simply being

entitled to achievements for wanting it more than enough. Ben, in his mind's eye,

encourages this idea—a man can head into the jungle poor and

go out rich. Willy is continually afflicted with the actual fact that

though he wants victory more than anything, he's still unable
